New utility pole

New utility pole

ConEd just showed up unexpectedly to put in a new utility pole, no one will give me a straight answer but we can only assume this is for our new, upgraded electrical service ๐Ÿคž
Welcome Bruce

Welcome Bruce

This is Bruce, my one indulgence from Amazon Prime Days last week. He is a Shark AI self-emptying robot vacuum cleaner (and named Bruce by Crispy after another famous robot shark).

So far he has wandered around and mapped the house, and now he is on his first, real cleaning run. Walter is keeping a close eye for the moment (but a few minutes later decided he was no threat and went back to sleep). The dogs are mostly ignoring him, though he did bump into Holly in the middle of the floor a little earlier and she graciously moved out of his way.

He seems to have found his way into the recesses of Crispy’s room without a problem ๐Ÿ˜‰

He has a setting where he goes back to his base and empties his on-board dust cup every half hour, and his base is supposed to have enough room for 30 days of cleaning- but I don’t think they had our crazy shedding dogs in mind- I suspect we’re going to need to empty it a little more often than that!

But so far so good- he’s actually pretty quiet and Holly (who is a bit deaf at this point admittedly) is already ignoring him:

+1 for DJI Care!

+1 for DJI Care!

So I managed to crash my long awaited new drone on it’s second day out, but luckily I had taken out the DJI Care insurance on it when I bought it. I filled out the online claim that day (Sunday, July 2) and they emailed me a shipping label to send it to them in California. Because of the holiday I didn’t drop it off to UPS until Tuesday, July 5th. But today, 10 days later, a brand-new-in-the-box drone has arrived to replace it ๐Ÿ™‚

I will be more careful and remember that there is no sideways obstacle avoidance from now on ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fuji in the Woods

Took my X100F with me for a leisurely walk around the woods in the heat this afternoon. Sometimes the simplicity of a fixed lens camera is just right ๐Ÿ™‚

Fantastic, while it lasted… (I’m a twit)

Fantastic, while it lasted… (I’m a twit)

I am really loving my new drone, it can do fun things like this:

And with the addition of a polarizing filter the pictures it takes, even in bright sunshine, are detailed and lovely.

This is an HDR panorama of the the sound from above the parking lot:

And here are another couple, Playland and then looking back the other way at the church:

Then I started taking a few more detailed shots around the church, including the steeple:

And that’s when I made my fatal mistake, I forgot that this little, tiny drone, sophisticated though it may be, has forward, backward, and downward obstacle avoidance, but not sideways. And I was just maneuvering to get a shot of the shrub that’s growing out of the roof above the main door when I must have clipped the steeple and down it came ๐Ÿ™ It doesn’t look too bad, and it will power on, it just won’t take off.

Ah well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, and this is why I took out the optional DJI accidental damage insurance ๐Ÿ™‚ and they’ve already sent me a shipping label to send it in. I just hope I get it back in time to take it to the UK in August!

A mother’s love…

A mother’s love…

Jackie and Crisp are in Florida, they drove down last week and Jackie dropped Crisp with a friend in Tallahassee and continued on to her mom’s in Fort Lauderdale. Yesterday Crisp got on a Greyhound to join her for the last few days before they drive home, which did not, however, go according to plan…

The bus trip had two connections, and though the bus was slightly late for the first one the second bus waited and all was well. However the second leg was plagued with problems and totally missed the second connection, leaving Crisp somewhat stranded in Orlando; so Jackie jumped in the car and drove 7 hours round trip in the rain to collect her, getting back to Fort Lauderdale just before 1am.

She’s an amazing woman and I am often simply in awe of her <3

Up, up and away

Up, up and away

Just had time to send the new drone up for a quick flight when I got home from the Synagogue ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to spend some time getting used to the camera settings etc., but so far I’m very happy! It’s tiny and almost feels like a toy, but it certainly doesn’t act like one- more to come, probably tomorrow if it doesn’t tip down with rain…

My new drone has finally arrived- it’s been on backorder for ages!

Ultralight but with a much better camera than my old Mavic Pro even though it’s less than half it’s size, I can’t wait to fly it! But I will need to go through all the firmware updates and charge the batteries etc. first, so it will have to wait ’til this evening after I get back from the Synagogue ๐Ÿ˜‰
