Amy update
So we’ve just had a call from the emergency vet, and they had a run of emergencies so they are only just getting to work on Amy now 🙁
The poor thing has been there alone since I left her at about 4 (after already having waited there for 2 1/2 hours already), and as she will need time to recover from the sedation they will need to give her to clean and stitch the wound we’ve agreed with them that she will stay the night there and we will pick her up on our way home in the morning as they are on our way south (they are not going to charge us for the overnight- thank God!).
This means we will have to leave earlier than we had planned, but if we picked her up tonight she would be woozy and in a cone in a strange house with steep stairs and this way she can be home in a couple of hours and start her recuperation in familiar surroundings.
Poor Faith is a little bereft as she does not understand where her sister is, but I can take her for a last walk early in the morning and then she will see Amy and can look after her in the car on the way home.
Never a dull moment..!
Of course …

More Walnut Mountain
After a lovely breakfast in the Liberty Diner we made a quick stop to Tractor Supply to pick up some slightly more waterproof footwear for me (I had foolishly only brought my canvas Carhartt workboots- fantastic and comfy in hot weather, but not great in wet grass- very wet socks!)- found these for quite cheap and they have turned out great.
Jackie went off to check out the local casino, and the girls and I went back out to explore more of Walnut Mountain- and explore we did!
Left is the trail map:
And right is our track from the girls’ satellite trackers:
We had a wonderful time going to the summit and checking out the foundations of the old Walnut Mountain Hotel, going around the back of the mountain and then hiking the long way back through the woods, almost 6 miles!

Which has led to two very tired dogs 😉

1st vacation morning
Too darn hot!
We did our usual early walk in the woods this morning before it got crazy hot, but when it’s 100° it’s just too hot to take the dogs for their usual afternoon walk around on the sidewalks! So we’ve come back to do the short loop in the woods where there is some shade and luckily still some running water for them to wallow in 🙂
