Brrrrr!

Brrrrr!

Very cold this morning, 9° but luckily it’s not crazy windy too. The girls are in their warm Hurtta coats and have copious amounts of Mushers wax rubbed into their feet to stop the snow balling- and I’ve just ordered another big tub as with the temperatures forecast this snow is not going anywhere for a while!

It’s a beautiful, brisk, cold morning in the woods! A couple of inches of snow highlighted by early morning sunshine. Lots of deer and rabbit tracks but we are the first hikers around the loop this morning.

Petzval in the woods

Took my Christmas present to the woods this morning 🙂

It wasn’t particularly cold, but for some reason B&W felt right for a lot of these. Here they are again, but in color, which set do you prefer?

Either way, I really like this lens! It’s pin sharp in the center and allows you to dial in the amount of swirly bokeh you want; I’ve probably gone a little overboard with it in a lot of these, but I’m learning it’s foibles and having fun 🙂

… in the back of the rental Hyundai Tucson I have while my car is in the shop after getting rear-ended just before Christmas. I don’t think the damage is too bad, but we have to wait for the other parties insurance adjuster to come and look at it before they can start the repair.

The Tucson is very nice (I had to insist on a larger rental than they were going to give me as I needed something that could haul the dogs around, and so they upgraded me to this), but I can’t wait to get my Crosstrek back!
Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

A few pictures of the usual family festivities in the Parish Hall after the Christmas morning service was done and we could all relax 🙂

Most of these are taken with my Christmas present from my amazing wife- a Lomography Petzval 55mm f/1.7 MKII Art Lens. It’s a modern re-imagining of a 19th century lens design which allows you to subtly adjust the bokeh and also has the option of adding shaped aperture plates- I couldn’t resist using the snowflake one- kitschy but fun 😉

There is a definite learning curve, but I love what I’ve got from it so far!

Then it was on to the presents, including the ever-popular grab-bag with special rules and an amazing riddle-based scavenger hunt by June, our mistress-of-ceremonies.

And finally, food and the usual amazing spread put together by Jackie (with a little help from Stew L.) and lots of fuzzy family time and conversations… and some very tired doggies who had a very busy day!
