It’s alive!!!

It’s alive!!!

The tech finally got our new copier working yesterday afternoon, and I finally got it working with my set-up at around 10pm πŸ™‚

It’s my own fault for being an arrogant Linux elitist; the salesmen and the techs always say “Yes, of course it will work with Linux!”, and then when they actually get here no-one has any idea what to do. But with a little lateral thinking , using our server as a fileshare go-between, an old laptop running the Fiery Command Workstation software, and a dash of Chrome Remote Desktop I can now print to it and control the full set of features from my Ubuntu workstation in my office πŸ™‚

So I spent a happy hour this morning cleaning up and re-arranging the copier room so it’s all neat and tidy and we have room to work πŸ˜‰

It is quite an amazing machine: it is a full production quality copier and printer with multiple paper options and a saddle-stitcher and folder (it makes folded and stapled booklets), and amazing quality color for a copier- almost (but not quite) as good as my Canon Pro-100, and the Fiery software that controls it all is fantastic! I have barely scratched the surface of what it can do as they have not trained us on it yet (that comes on Monday), so I’m very excited to see what it can really do as we plan the Christmas service bulletins πŸ™‚
