A7iii vs. 5Diii
I thought I was done, but at the request of my buddy Colin here are some direct comparisons between the pictures from my Canon 5Diii and the Sony A7iii with no tweaking at all from me or Lightroom- directly out of the camera. To try and make things as even as possible they are all taken at ISO 200, f/5.6, AWB, Aperture Priority. On the Sony is my EF 70-200mm f/4 L and on the Canon is my EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS L II, IS is turned on on the lens on the Canon and on the body on the Sony, all are taken at 70mm. The RAW shots are imported into Lightroom and exported as jpegs at max 1600, 100% quality and 150 dpi. the jpegs out of the camera are just resized in Irfanview down to max 1600 (to make the size manageable).
Here are the RAW shots…
And here are the jpegs right out of the camera…
The file sizes from the two cameras vary way more than you would expect for just a 1.7MP difference (22.3 for the Canon, 24 for the Sony). As an example, for the picture of my car (the first in each column above), the CR2 RAW file from the Canon is 27MB, while the ARW file from the Sony is 47.3MB. And the jpegs from the camera are similar, the one from the Canon is 7.27MB, and the one from the Sony is 19MB. Here are the full size jpegs from the camera for those two shots (they will take a while to load as they are so huge, 5760×3840 for the Canon and 6000×4000 for the Sony)…
If you download them or open them in a new tab once you’ve clicked on them they will open full size and you can zoom in and pixel peep if you must π
Right, now I really must get the Sony and it’s accessories properly packed up and off to the rental houses where they came from… π
