This is not easy

This is not easy

Welcome to our first day as “empty nesters”. Kevin & Nancy were nice enough to not only have us over for dinner last night, but also invited us to come and spend the afternoon today sitting by (and in) their pool to take our minds off it.

Of course we spent the morning cleaning Cris’s room at home, doing the laundry, vacuuming, cleaning out and feeding Dipper (the leopard gecko), remaking the bed and generally making ourselves busy and in the process missing her more. We have put aside a bag for all the little things she has forgotten: hair towels, spare light bulbs, college t-shirts that were in the wash, etc., and even though I’m supposed to go over to Purchase on Tuesday when her micro/fridge is delivered to help her get it up to her room, there is almost a physical need to grab that bag of forgotten items and take it to her today!

I had no idea this would be so tough, and she’s only 10 minutes away! How do people whose kids go to the other side of the country (or even other countries) do it?

I’m sure it will get easier as time goes by, and we will get used to the one word text replies (I texted her this morning with a promise that I would not text every morning but I just wondered how her first night had been- “good”), and I am so proud of her and so happy she’s happy, but damn!
