Curious Incident
We went to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time last night (our Christmas present from my parents- thanks!) on Broadway.
We had a fabulous evening- we drove in a little early (isn’t it crazy that with 3 of us going it’s cheaper to drive and park in the garage 30 feet from the theater than take the train in?) and had a great dinner at the Mean Fiddler across the street before wandering around Times Square for a while, looking at all the people, the lights and the preparations for tonight’s ball-drop.
The show was great- an amazingly cleverly staged detective mystery seen through the mind of a 15 year old boy. I won’t go into the plot in case you want to read the book or go see the show, but will just say that you should definitely do either or both!
Crisp loved it- the only thing that got him riled was when the audience giggled at inappropriate moments. It’s never explicitly mentioned, but it’s pretty obvious that the lead character is high-functioning aspergers and the actors are wonderful and play it completely straight and not for laughs at all, but a couple of times there were nervous titters from people in the audience who were obviously made uncomfortable by some of his reactions to things.
All-in-all a wonderful evening and a great way to end the year on a high note- we had a blast- thanks Mum & Dad!
