Top of the world!

Top of the world!

Holly and I have just got back from a lovely morning hiking around the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY. It’s a 4700 acre park with 41.9 miles of trails.

We did the “Blue” trail this morning- it says it’s 3.8 miles, but it feels like a lot more because it rises to the highest point in the park where there used to be a fire tower, and the climb up (and then back down) is pretty steep in places- needing hands and feet for some sections. We took it at a fairly leisurely pace and, with a stop for a bite of lunch at the top, it took us about 2 hours.

This is a great new place to find to hike! It does say dogs should be on leashes at all times, but Holly is so good and stays with me so I let her off as soon as we were out of sight of where we’d parked the car- and we didn’t see another single soul the entire time we were there (it was 90 degrees and quite humid, so I suppose that’s not too surprising). We shall definitely be back to explore further!

Anyhow, here are a couple of pictures I took while we were there- first Holly at the top where the fire tower was-

This is one of the gentler sections on the way down-

And of course we have to finish with Holly cooling of in the stream at the end-
