Haiti & the networks
Flicking around the channels this evening I am struck by the fact that every network (broadcast and cable) seems to have anchors and reporters in Port au Prince. And they are all reporting on how rescue workers can’t get into Haiti because the airport is full. I know it’s important to let the world know what’s going on, but I would have a lot more respect for all the news outlets if they had agreed to run a “pool” and send in one group of reporters that they could all use- and let the space freed up from not sending in duplicate anchors, crew and equipment be used to bring in the rescue workers they seem so desperate to show us stuck waiting to fly in.

Totally agree – there must be hundreds of them there. Can't they see how it looks to us as they jostle for position while the rescue workers and aid agencies are forced to circle the airport waiting for a landing slot?
AND wouldn't it be enough to restore your faith in humankind if the bankers suddenly decided as one to donate their bonuses to the Haitian cause? If only.
