Father’s Day Gift- Canon 55-250mm IS

My Father’s Day gift from Jackie (well- she’s paying for part of it- the funeral we had last week is paying for the rest) arrived a little early yesterday, so I thought I’d put it through it’s paces while I was out with the dog this morning. It’s a new lens for my Canon XSi, the 55-250mm zoom with the built it image stabilization. I toyed with the idea of going for the Tamron 18-270mm, but for some reason couldn’t persuade Jackie that I needed to spend $600.00+ on a new lens (funny that!). And though having the full zoom range in one lens would be nice, the 55-250 goes very nicely with the Canon 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera to give me almost the same range.Anyhow, this lot were all taken at Saxon Woods this morning under an overcast sky and mostly in the shade under the trees- Canon claims that the IS gives a gain of 4 stops, and I’m not sure if I’d go that far, but it certainly makes a big difference! I think this is going to be the lens that will live on my camera most of the time now, the flexibility of the zoom range, paired with the IS and the excellent auto-focus (it kept up with Holly racing around in the woods under less than ideal lighting conditions really well), is great!BTW, these pics have all been resized so that they won’t take forever to load- trust me, in full resolution they look even more fantastic.
